The Cruelty of Disappearing Branded as a "Traitor"
In a brazen act of intrusion, they burst into his residence, ransacking his possessions, striking terror into the hearts of his wife and daughter, and sowing chaos in their wake, casting a pall of fear over his family and the surrounding neighborhood. This ominous intrusion heralded the onset of Murad Abdelwahid Dhafir's mysterious disappearance, commencing with his apprehension from his residence in the vibrant metropolis of Sana'a, the capital city.
Mrs. Juhaina Ahmed Al-Sharjabi (Murad's wife) recounts with bitterness and profound sadness the details of the incident: On Sunday, June 6, 2024, precisely at half-past eight in the evening, we received news of the arrest and disappearance of one of Murad's female colleagues by the security forces and intelligence operatives affiliated with the Ansar Allah group (the Houthis), after raiding her home.
Half an hour later, we heard loud knocks on the apartment door. Upon opening it, I found around 15 armed and masked individuals, including three women. I refused to let them in, but they forced their way in and began searching the house. They detained my daughter and me in a room, allowing us to leave only under the watchful eyes of the women who meticulously searched through all of my daughter Mira's (24 years old) belongings.
Juhaina and her daughter Mira find themselves engulfed in profound anxiety and fear. Juhaina, confined in her daughter's room with the scrutinizing women, remained oblivious to the turmoil unfolding in the apartment where her husband and daughter were present. Mira, gripped by intense panic, was in a state of distress.
Further, Juhaina recounted, "The search was completed, and they seized three large travel bags and thirty boxes filled with my husband's personal belongings and papers. They took my husband away, and we are still in the dark about his whereabouts."
She went on to say sadly: "Our circumstances have deteriorated, and the crises have escalated. My daughter Mira is plagued by severe nervousness, fear, and panic, while we endure the harsh words and harassment from others. Former allies now label us as spies, and neighbors accuse Murad of espionage for America and Israel. We face hostility from all quarters, perpetuating our sense of fear and isolation. Our phones are tapped, and we live under constant surveillance. Trust has eroded, and fear now pervades every aspect of our lives."
In conclusion, she lamented, "Justice has been obscured... To whom can we plead for justice if not to Allah? Where can we seek refuge, support, and reassurance when everyone has become complicit in this injustice, casting shadows over our very existence?"
