Mwatana for Human Rights stated that it provided legal support, through its field team of female and male lawyers, to 343 victims of arbitrary detention, enforced disappearance, and torture, and contributed to the release of 23 of them during March 2025.
Mwatana for Human Rights offered legal support through its field lawyers to civilian victims during March 2025 in the following areas of control: 155 victims under the authority of the Ansar Allah (Houthi) group; 75 victims under the Southern Transitional Council; 97 victims under the forces of the internationally recognized government; and 16 victims under the Saudi/UAE-led coalition.
These victims were distributed across various governorates, with the highest numbers recorded in Taiz and the Capital Secretariat (Sana’a), each with 55 victims, followed by Hadhramaut with 43 victims, Aden with 42, Marib with 25, Hajjah with 22, Lahj with 21, Shabwah with 17, Al-Dhale’e with 16, Abyan with 12, Amran and Dhamar with 8 each, Sana’a and Raymah with 4 each, Al-Bayda and the Yemeni-Saudi border areas with 3 each, Al Hudaydah with 2, and Ibb, Al-Jawf, and Saada with 1 victim each.
During March 2025, Mwatana for Human Rights documented 56 new incidents of arbitrary detention, enforced disappearance, and torture. The Ansar Allah (Houthi) group was responsible for 26 of these incidents, while forces affiliated with the internationally recognized government were responsible for 16, and the Southern Transitional Council forces for 14.
The efforts of Mwatana’s Legal Support team are focused on ensuring procedural justice for all individuals who come into contact with law enforcement bodies or are detained by armed groups that now operate as de facto authorities. These efforts aim to guarantee that individuals enjoy all their rights from the moment of arrest, through the phases of investigation, defense, and detention conditions, and culminating in trial.
