On Monday, September 9, 2024, the governance and management bodies of "Mwatana for Human Rights" held a joint meeting that included the Board of Trustees, Senior Management, and the Administrative Committee. The meeting addressed various aspects of institutional operations at "Mwatana," beginning with a review of past years, assessing the current situation, and setting directions for the upcoming phase.
The meeting reviewed some of the challenges faced by "Mwatana" during the second half of 2023. It also included brief presentations on the scheduled institutional development plan, the draft governance and management policy, the draft bylaws, and the draft Strategic Plan 2030. These documents were presented by the Senior Management and the Chairperson of the Board of Trustees for review and approval by the Board, following their preparation and review by the Administrative Committee and Senior Management.
The meeting was opened by Radhya Al-Mutawakel, Chairperson of the Board of Trustees and Chairperson of "Mwatana for Human Rights," who addressed questions from the Board members. She welcomed all attendees, praised the achievements accomplished despite the significant challenges faced by the organization, and commended the efforts of everyone involved, including the Senior Management and the Administrative Committee. Radhya emphasized that these successes were the result of collaboration and dedication and expressed her appreciation for the Board’s support. She encouraged continued hard work to achieve the organization's future goals and to enhance its role in protecting human rights in Yemen and the region.
Abdulrasheed Al-Faqih, Vice Chairpersons of "Mwatana for Human Rights," presented on the new operational paths that the organization plans to launch and focus on in the near future, including strategies for developing sustainable resources for the organization.
The Executive Director, Mohamed Al-Selwi, provided an overview of the human rights, administrative, and financial operations within the organization’s field and central units. This included details on internal and independent audit and evaluation processes.
Safia Al-Sayaghi, Director of the Projects and Programs Unit, presented on all the projects and programs the organization is currently working on, as well as information on partner and donor organizations and mechanisms for resource mobilization and management.
The meeting also discussed the impact of the Gaza conflict, the international community's response to ongoing human rights violations over the past year, and the effect of these issues on independent human rights work in Yemen and the region.
The meeting concluded after approximately two hours of discussions, exchanges of observations, ideas, and constructive questions. It was agreed that the Administrative Committee and Senior Management would provide a monthly update to the Board of Trustees on the progress of work, and that the Board of Trustees would hold meetings every three months.
