"Do not abandon me."
Nadia (pseudonym, 38 years old) is a housewife and mother whose children eagerly await her return whenever they hear a knock on the door.
After being abducted and forcibly disappeared in the Criminal Investigation Prison of the Ansar Allah Group (Houthis), Nadia’s first communication with her family included the sentence “Do not abandon me.” She was afraid that her family would be ashamed of her disappearance, even though she was a victim of an authority that claims to have become or replaced the state.
The story began in February 2019 when Nadia started her day by taking out the trash after cleaning her house. She encountered some strangers who asked about the location of a nearby place. She was uncertain of their intentions. Suddenly, she felt a needle prick in her body and passed out. When she woke up, she found herself in an unknown place similar to a basement, wearing clothes of female prisoners just like many other girls there.
Perhaps she thought that being abducted was the worst thing to happen to her, until her hair was forcibly clipped and her body beaten. After enduring such torment, she was granted the opportunity to step outside into the yard, as if this were a reward for her silence while being tortured! Yes, this place was the Criminal Investigation Department of the Ansar Allah group (Houthis).
The first month of her detention passed, and with it, the woman who used to stand on her feet and proudly flaunt her hair and femininity had transformed into someone else. She became a broken woman crawling on the ground with her hair clipped and unable to stand due to the beatings on her back. As her condition worsened, the perpetrators treated her as worthless and callously dumped her in front of her house after eleven months of torture and disappearance.
Her family retrieved her, determined to leave everything that had happened behind and care for her, attempting to help her regain her health. The children reunited with their mother and were enveloped in her warm embrace. Nadia slowly began the process of rebuilding her life, which had been stolen from her for several months due to the heinous acts she had been subjected to.
However, little did Nadia know, someone was watching her, and her release was not an act of kindness or benevolence. Her family believe that she was returned because the abductors had thought her death was imminent. After confirming she was still alive and had recovered, they abducted her once again in mid-2020. She had gone out to buy a chicken to cook for lunch, but she has not returned to this day.
Yes.. Nadia has yet to return. Despite her family has not abandoned her, she remains in the hands of her captors and their conscienceless actions. However, the responsibility to return her to her family and children rests on all of humanity. As of the time of writing this blog, Nadia is still forcibly disappeared with no official charges brought against her.
