Arbitrary Detention in the context of public celebrations marking the glorious Yemen's Revolution

Mwatana for Human Rights has documented over twenty cases of arbitrary detention of civil activists in the capital, Sana’a, and several other governorates, carried out by the authorities of Ansar Allah (Houthi) group. These detentions occurred in the context of public celebrations marking the glorious September 26 Revolution. Mwatana condemns these violations and demands the immediate release of all detainees. It reaffirms its unwavering stance in support of freedom of opinion, expression, and civil and political rights, which are guaranteed to all citizens under the Yemeni Constitution, national laws, and applicable legislation, as well as under international treaties. Mwatana denounces any infringement on these fundamental and inherent rights by any party, under any circumstances, and reiterates its call to ensure these rights for all citizens.

Mwatana continues to document cases of arbitrary detention and enforced disappearance and provides legal support to victims and their families through a team of field lawyers working across various governorates.

Mwatana also cautions against the reckless dissemination of information—whether false, partial, or manipulated to serve the narratives of warring parties or their propaganda platforms—without the informed consent of the victims and their families. Such practices not only heighten the risks faced by individuals who maintain independence in their views and actions, free from the influence of these factions and their networks, but also exacerbate the suffering of detainees' families and loved ones. Therefore, Mwatana calls on independent media outlets and activists committed to impartiality to verify information carefully, engage with the families of victims, and obtain their informed consent as a basis for any solidarity efforts with victims of human rights violations.

Mwatana welcomes reports from families of victims of arbitrary detention and witnesses through its reporting channels, including its website and email. This step aids in the ongoing documentation of violations and the provision of legal support.
